General - Linked Server
In a server constellation where the SCCM Manager database and the SCCM database are located on different servers or database instances, a linked server is required to ensure the functionality of some plug-ins. When using linked servers, these plug-ins must be configured accordingly.

Create Linked Server
The Linked Server represents a connection between the SCCM Manager database and SCCM database. To create a Linked Server, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is required.
There it is necessary to connect to the server where the SCCM Manager database is located.
On the corresponding server, expand the "Server Objects" folder and open the context menu of the "Linked Servers" folder. There, the entry "New Linked Server..." must be selected.
There the server name, with if available database instance, must be specified, on which the SCCM database is located. SQL Server" is selected as the server type.
On the left side of the bar, switch to the "Security" tab and select the item "Be made using the login's current security context". With "OK" the linked server will be created.
