Licensing

Licensing Model

SCCM Manager is provided as an annual subscription license.
The license is delivered as a file with the extension *.lic, and the file must be copied to the product’s installation directory.

The client component does not require its own license file.

License validation is performed entirely offline. An internet connection is not required.

License Metrics

The license can be tied to the following characteristics:

  • Config Manager Site Code(s)

  • Active Directory Domain(s)

  • Server hostname (NetBIOS name)

Notes:

  • Multiple site codes can be specified within a single license.

  • Multiple Active Directory domains can be specified within a single license.

  • For hostname binding, the server’s NetBIOS name is used (not the FQDN).

License metrics are verified on the server side.

License Validation

No separate activation is required.
The server component automatically reads the license file and checks:

  • Validity

  • Expiration date

  • License metric

License validation is performed locally on the server.

When the client component establishes a connection to the server (via the web service), the server performs the license verification.
If the license verification fails or the license metrics do not match, the client receives a corresponding notification dialog upon startup or when connecting.

An invalid or expired license is also logged in the server log.

Procedure and Behavior When a License Expires

Every license has a fixed expiration date.

Behavior After Expiration

  • The server no longer provides functional services.

  • The client component can still connect, but will receive a corresponding notification.

  • Productive use is no longer possible.

  • There is no grace period.

  • Once the license file has been replaced with a valid license, the product is immediately ready for use again.

Obtaining a License or Demo License

A valid license will be sent to the contact person specified in the order after the order is placed.

The following license metrics are required to issue a license:

  • Config Manager Site Code(s)

  • Active Directory Domain(s)

  • Server hostname (NetBIOS name)
